we always seem to ramble on about what you don’t see at every event you shoot, how you can avoid paradigms, and how you can open yourself up to experiencing new things. the epitome of that, for us, was this idea we pitched to michael and chrystalle. we asked if we could come down 4 days before the wedding and cover everything related to their story from the dress fittings to the cake being made, decorations being sewn to jewelry being polished. in the end, the main feature will be roughly the same length, but the story will have so much more depth and context (at least thats our goal).

That sounds so awesome! I’d love to have that kind of time to make features that much stronger. Once I can make this my full time passion, then I’ll do more of this. Can’t wait to see the results!
Canon should make it part of the next firmware update to flash the words “avoid paradigms” on the lcd screen everytime the camera turns on :)
Great idea! Just wondering, how much does that add to the post editing? With all that footage, how long will the feature take to edit?

that’s a good question. one we will learn the answer to rather shortly. i am guessing another 2-3 weeks at least in post. the idea is to keep the feature on 40 minutes so it is very tight and ha slots of content. finding different narrative threads to follow will certainly be the challenge as there are so many. we are hoping to post some samples as we go through the piece to share them here.

i’m excited to see how everybody respond when they see it – both the industry and couples. to borrow another quote from steve jobs, and i don’t know the exact wording – ‘people don’t know what they want until you show them.’ and i think that will be the case here. when everybody starts seeing the value in other things related to the wedding i think we will see peoples minds start opening up to what is possible.
